Schumer supports Buffalo-Toronto relationship

Buffalo (WBEN) -- The Buffalo Bisons are now Toronto's Triple-A farm team, and the Bills will face the Seahawks at Rogers Centre in December.

When asked about their ties, a New York lawmaker says he supports the relationship between the two cities.

The regional ties between Buffalo and Toronto are beneficial for both sports and the local economy, U-S Senator Charles Schumer said during a visit on Friday.

"The Buffalo-Toronto connection is a great connection for sports.  It has already helped the Bills. I think it will help the Bisons," Schumer said.

Toronto is one of the fastest growing areas of North America, the Democrat said, adding that Buffalo is nearest large city and transportation hub at the border.

"Any way we can increase the links, economic and sports-wise, between Buffalo and Toronto is good for our Western New York economy.  It's something I encourage," Schumer said.

On Friday, it was announced the Bisons have a new affiliation agreement with the Blue Jays, and an official with Rogers Centre says a deal to extend the Bills Toronto series will be completed in the near future.
