Cheektowaga (WBEN) -- Walmart Stores, Inc. has announced plans to open a Supercenter on Walden Ave. in Cheektowaga at the site of the current location of Super Flea.
The new Supercenter will replace the existing store on Thruway Plaza Dr., the company said in a news release on Wednesday.
Walmart's new store proposal calls for an approximately 183,000-square-foot Supercenter, and will create an additional 85 new jobs, most of which will be full time, the company said.
"After careful consideration of what site in Cheektowaga worked best for a new Supercenter, we have decided internally that the development of a store at Walden Avenue is a win-win for us and for the community. Walmart is pleased to be able to offer a full range of items for its customers including a full line of groceries, consisting of fresh produce, frozen foods, meat, and dairy products, and organic items. We look forward to moving our existing store and adding a full service grocery division to better serve the residents of Cheektowaga," William Wertz, Walmart's director of community and media relations, said in the news release.
"Walmart has assured me it intends to keep our residents informed of its plans for the new Supercenter, which be important as they move forward," Cheektowaga Supervisor Mary Holtz said in the same news release.
Walmart is planning a community open house for residents to come view plans for the new store. The session is set for Monday, October 29, at the Private Leonard Post VFW at 2450 Walden Ave. Residents can stop in anytime between 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. that evening.
