Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A cold case appears to be cracked, as federal agents charge a man with wire and mail fraud charges in connection with the murder of his fiancee three years ago.

A grand jury indicted 44 year old Ronald Epps of Amherst, with seven counts, rainging from wire fraud and mail fraud to arson and possession of Molotov cocktails. US Attorney Bill Hochul says he killed his fiancee Angela Moss near her workplace in Orchard Park and set fire to an apartment a year later to collect on insurance policies.

Prosecutors say on August 27, 2009, Moss left her place of employment at Absolut Care on Armor Road in Orchard Park at 11:00 p.m. The victim was last seen getting into the passenger seat of her car. Moss’ body was discovered at 6:00 a.m. the following morning on California Road by colleagues heading into work. The Indictment alleges that the defendant waited in the victim’s car then drove to California Road where Epps shot Moss once in the back of her head and left her body on the side of the road. The victim’s car was also found abandoned nearby. "Mr. Epps tried to change the beneficiary of Ms. Moss' life insurance policy to make him the sole beneficiary in July (2009) and then the indictment accused Mr. Epps of killing Ms. Moss to collect the life insurance policy," explains Hochul.

Hochul adds on August 1, 2010, Epps obtained a renter’s insurance policy from State Farm Insurance. He says on October 13, 2010, Epps set fire to the vacant apartment next door with Molotov Cocktails. On this occasion, the damage to his apartment was minimal. On October 15, Epps is accused of setting fire to his own apartment. On May 31, 2011, Epps received $3, 769 from State Farm Insurance for damages to his property. He stayed in the apartment where he lived with Moss.

Epps is currently under federal indictment for a gun charge involving a weapon discovered by police in his home the day Angela Moss’ body was discovered.

There is no word yet on local charges against Epps in connection with the murder, but Hochul notes to prove the federal charges, prosecutors will have to prove Epps killed his fiancee.
