Williamsville, NY (WBEN) -- Two Amherst town employees are recovering after a tracter trailer clipped the elevated boom they were working in -- ejecting both and they fell to the ground.
It happened around mid-morning Monday along Main Street in the village of Williamsville.
The workers were removing a banner at the time.
"The boom was extended and they were removing a banner across Main Street. Traffic was proceeding eastbound in the far right lane. That when a semi-truck came down in the right lane. The top corner of the semi made contact with the boom, which caused the two town employees to be ejected on to the ground," says Amherst police captain Patrick McKenna.
Both employees were transported to ECMC with injuries, he added. The employees have been identified as Scott Charleson and Paul Mordaunt. Both have broken hips and wrists, Mordaunt also suffered a broken vertebrae.

The accident forced the closure of Main Street between Union and Mill as the investigation continues. That stretch reopened at 3pm.
The driver of the truck has been charged with driving an oversized vehicle on that stretch of Main Street.
