Resident: Attica Pile Won't Be Cleared in a Week

Attica, NY (WBEN) One Attica resident who's raised a big stink over the pile of recyclables at a facility says it may take longer than planned to get rid of the mess. But he's not blaming the workers.

"My observation from the village park is they've got a long way to go," says Jeff Huber. "The real hotspots are toward the center but one of the workers says it's kind of uniform."

He also says safety concerns may delay completion of the removal. "They said with the lights and the fog, the burning plastics and the misters, they couldn't see well enough at night. It was a safety concern and they weren't going to put themselves in harm's way," explains Huber, which means the removal may take two weeks instead of one. The original plan was for crews to work around the clock.

Huber says the crews have done a good job to keep the smell down, but the winds shifted away from the village to help keep the odors down too. "The wind was blowing predominantly to the south and I live east of the plant, so the smell wasn't too bad. I'll be concerned again once that wind shifts back to its normal course to the east," explains Huber.

Huber adds the smell remains predominantly strong at night.

Poll
How do you feel about allowing school districts a second vote on their budget plan?
As long as it's a different plan it's ok.
I'm ok with a 2nd vote for the same or a different plan.
  One vote and done!
