Speaking Wednesday in Buffalo, Lieutenant Gov. Robert Duffy told reporters all sides are having -- what he called -- "very productive discussions" on renewing the team's lease at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
He also reiterated that all sides agreed they won't negotiate the lease in public, but he also made wanted to emphasize this point.
"We want to keep the Bills in Buffalo and Western New York for as long as possible ... We do not want to see the Bills leave," Duffy said.
Duffy says the state is willing to meet anywhere, anytime as the talks continue.
"When we have any progress, we will certainly state that as a team, but they are productive, they are ongoing, and that's the best I can give you right now," Duffy said.
It was back on Sept. 12 that Bills CEO Russ Brandon saids a new lease for Ralph WIlson stadium likely won't be ready by year's end. He said at the time the main thing now is to re-start the process, set a new calendar, and continue working on a long-term agreement.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz had hoped to have new lease agreement in place by the end of the year. Poloncarz says the current lease will be extended beyond the expiration date next July to allow more time to craft a new lease agreement.
