Amherst Town Councilmember Jay Anderson says the New York State Thruway Authority ignored a request through the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request regarding the Williamsville Toll Booths.
Anderson spoke out at a recent meeting of the Amherst Town Board that he wanted to see some progress on the effort to move the Williamsville Toll Booths further east down the Thruway.
Anderson on Monday told reporters he's tired of the ongoing delays.
"It's been stalled for too long, and we're standing up to the [New York] State Department of Transportation and the New York State Thruway Authority and telling them that we're done being stalled," Anderson said.
He went on to explain what officials are hoping to find out.
"We've asked for an accounting of federal dollars -- six million dollars of earmarked funds that were spent or misspent," Anderson said.
He adds that the Thruway Authority "has not even acknowledged" the request for information. Anderson believes the information they're hoping to get will "substantiate" the ongoing call to move the Williamsville Toll Booths and "hopefully get the ball rolling on moving the tolls" as soon as possible.
Williamsville mayor Brian Kulpa says it's a quality of life issue in the village -- believing such a project would reduce traffic congestion on Main Street.
