Novelty Grenade Causes Evacuation at Tonawanda Business

Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) Town of Tonawanda Police investigated a business after what appeared to be a grenade was discovered Tuesday morning. The grenade belonged to a man who works there and was arrested yesterday for possessing a grenade in Genesee County.

"We got a call from Anderson Equipment on Military Road," says Lt. Nick Bado. "One of the other employees noticed what looked like a grenade in another person's workspace." That person was Paul Kaiser, who was arrested in LeRoy after a live grenade was found in the back seat of his car during a routine traffic stop.

Bado says the business was evacuated for about 90 minutes as police and the Erie County Bomb Squad quickly determined the grenade was inert.
Bado says the grenade in Kaiser's workspace was not placed there for ill intent. "It's just happened to be something he had in his possession. He's an enthusiast of military things like that," says Bado. No charges have been filed.
