What Are We Getting Out of Debates?

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) As President Obama and Mitt Romney debate this month, how much are voters getting out the debates? Not much, says one pop culture expert.

"If they watch them, I suppose they've been hearing the same thing over the long, long, campaigns that have been going on," says Syracuse University's Bob Thompson. He says the reason why is because of the various outlets for news and new ideas from the candidates and the length of the campaign season.

One group that could get something out of this: the undecided voters. "I guess these debates and political advertising and the rest of it are essentially aimed at this group who could still have their minds changed, and in this case, how one sees these performances could have an impact," explains Thompson.

He adds many who talked about the debate around the water cooler weren't discussing the issues, but the drama.

Speaking of the issues
Last week during his spanking, Paul Ryan actually owned up to having requested stimulus funds for Wisconsin. In other words, he *told the truth*. Didn't anyone point that out? Romney would have simply denied it. It's a rarity for Republicans not to lie; it may have been a unique event.
