Gailey: Mario Williams has 'procedure' to repair wrist injury

Orchard Park (WBEN) -- Bills defensive end Mario Williams has had a 'prodedure' to repair a wrist injury.

Bills head coach Chan Gailey provided the update during an afternoon briefing with the media in Orchard Park.  Williams is expected back for practice next week, Gailey said.

The Bills signed Williams earlier this year as the NFL's highest paid defensive player, but many analysts believe he has underperformed so far this season.

Williams – who is guaranteed $50 million from the Bills – has underachieved through Buffalo’s first seven games,  recording 16 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

The hampered wrist has been an ongoing issue for the former No. 1 pick, but the team hasn't announced specifics on the injury, other than to say Williams had a procedure on it.

The NFL investigated the Bills for not being honest about the injury, and the team has since been fined for not properly addressing Williams’ ailment.
