The nation's worst drought in decades is showing no sign of letting up in several key Midwest farming states, worrying farmers harvesting the summer's withered corn crop in record time that their winter crops may also be at risk. Emergency Declaration for Drought Allows for Farmers to Get Loans

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Western New Yorkers affected by the drought earlier this year will get federal help.

Congresswoman Kathy Hochul says the USDA designated the counties in her congressional district, which include Genesee, Erie, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming Counties.

Hochul says the declaration allows farmers seeking help to get emergency loans.

For more information, affected farmers are encouraged to contact their local Farm Service Agency office or Cornell Cooperative Extension Office.
