ALBION, N.Y. (AP) - A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for fatally stabbing a woman during a carjacking attempt in the parking lot of an Orleans County Wal-Mart last year.
Luis Rodriguez-Flamenco pleaded guilty in July to second-degree murder for killing 45-year-old Kathleen Byham of Albion. The illegal immigrant from Honduras stabbed Byham multiple times while grabbing for her car keys on a Sunday afternoon. Two accomplices were turned over to immigration officials without being indicted.
Rodriguez-Flamenco showed no remorse during Monday's sentencing in Orleans County Court and offered no apologies when asked whether he wanted to speak.
Three months before she was killed, Byham received a doctorate in philosophy from the online Arts Institute of San Francisco.
