Alden Specialist Among Three Killed in Afghanistan

PORT HENRY, N.Y. (AP) - Military officials say a specialist from Alden was among three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers from upstate New York killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

27 year old Spc. Brett E. Gornewicz of Alden was killed along with 29-year-old Staff Sgt. Dain Venne (vehn) of Port Henry and 22-year-old Spc. Ryan Jayne of Campbell.

The Pentagon says they died of wounds suffered Saturday when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosion device in Paktia province.

They were assigned to the 178th Engineer Battalion of the Oswego-based 412th Theater Engineer Command.
