"We have 580,000 registered voters, and we expect 450,000 of them to vote," says Dennis Ward, Democratic Erie County Elections Commissioner. "It's not that people aren't interested in the congressional races, but those interested in the congressional races are also interested in the presidential race, the granddaddy of them all. I think the presidential race is what brings people in."
Ward says with a large turnout, expect long lines. "What we remind people, is if you go during busy times, you're going to wait in line." The busy times are 4:30-8:30pm. But if you're in line before 9 but haven't had a chance to vote, you will. "At 9 o'clock, we send an election inspector to the end of the line at the polling site. At that point, that's the end point, if anyone else comes after that, it's too late, they can't vote," explains Ward.
