"We're very pleased with the turnout in Erie County. Four years ago, we had a 78 percent turnout, and this year we expect to reach it if not exceed it," says Republican Elections Commissioner Ralph Mohr.
There were some scanner problems, but nothing out of the ordinary says Democratic Elections Commissioner Dennis Ward. "Anytime paper meets machine, there will always be paper jams," says Ward. "We had a low replacement rate on the machines. We've only had to replace three, which is far lower than we usually do."
Ward also clears the air on the question of tweeting or putting pictures of your completed ballot online. "The unanimous opinion of the state election board is it's not a violation of the law," says Ward, who explains the law was in place to keep employers from intimidating workers on who to vote for. "In essence, you're showing a copy of your ballot, which is not a violation."
