Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN / Buffalo News) -- Word is circulating on Capitol Hill that the Air Force might have more use for the Niagara Falls air base after all.
Previously on the base closing list, the Falls base might be the future home of drone aircraft.
Buffalo News Washington correspondent Jerry Zremski reports the base is under consideration for staging drone aircraft.
The 107th air wing could be re-tasked, maybe with fewer personnel.
Even though the information was preliminary, and a bit shy on detail, Western New York's Congressional delegation was heartened that it looks as though the Falls air base has a more secure future.
Linking the Western New York base to drone aircraft could place the Falls base with those on the forefront of modern airborne warfare.
