March Madness Returns to Buffalo

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) March Madness will return to Buffalo in a little more than a year. The NCAA announced Buffalo will host second and third round games in the 2014 NCAA men's basketball tournament.

Games will be played March 20th and 22nd at First Niagara Center.

The bid was placed by Canisius College, Niagara University, and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. "We were helped not only with the tournament being here before, but the events here sell out. That's not been the case with other venues around the country," says Bill Maher, Canisius Director of Athletics. Maher is confident Buffalo will step up again and want to be a part of it. Buffalo has hosted NCAA tournament games in 2000, 2004, 2007, 2010, and 2014.

Maher says the tournament puts a spotlight on Buffalo, not just for people watching on TV, but for those who visit Buffalo. "It's another one of those things where people who haven't come here before leave with a very favorable impression," explains Maher who notes the tournament has a significant economic impact.
