One local man will likely benefit from some of those deer kills.
Taxidermist Nelson Stimaker has already seen about 30 deer from bowhunters, and expects that number to grow from those using shotguns.
"It usually is a very crazy, busy time ... the beginning of the season," says Nelson Stimaker, the owner of Nelsons Wildlife Arts in Depew.
From what he hears from hunters who have brought him deer for mounting, "the deer are very active. It should be a heck of a weekend."
Stimaker has had a display at The Buck and Doe Shop in Williamsville for the past decade, and he says it's been a good working relationship.
If a hunter plans to have a deer mounted, Stimaker suggests shooting behind the shoulder when making sure the animal is dead -- and not in the neck or head area.
He says it'll make his job easier.
