50 Apartment Dwellers Displaced After Two Alarm Blaze



Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Red Cross is assisting 50 residents of an apartment complex heavily damaged by fire. The two alarm blaze broke out Friday morning.

The initial call came out around 9:30 am at 1011 Amherst Street near Delaware Avenue. There are reports a DEA agent and two off duty firefighters saw smoke from the building and went in to help people get out.

A fire chief suffered a knee injury in the fire. Three residents were also hurt. Their injuries are said to not be life threatening.

No word on a cause right now.

The Red Cross says people displaced by the fire will be given vouchers for hotel stays.
