About 14,000 ready for the 117th Turkey Trot

Buffalo (WBEN) -- The oldest annual foot race in North America will again be part of Buffalo's Thanksgiving morning.

The 117th annual YMCA Turkey Trot steps off Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at the corner of Delaware Ave. and Shoreman Parkway and winds its way down Delaware, ending at the Buffalo Convention Center.

People will want to get there very early, says Kathy Romanowski, communications director for the YMCA Buffalo Niagara.

"Parking is always a challenge that morning, but we do have shuttle-bus services going to and from the Convention Center to get people down to the start line," Romanowski says.

About 14,000 participants are taking part in this year's YMCA Turkey Trot, the largest ever for the annual 8-K foot race, she says.

Afterward, a ceremony will honor the winners in each division with a large gathering inside the convention center.  At the same time, a family-friendly gathering will also be available inside Statler City.
