Judge Lifts Stay of Bethlehem Steel Building Demolition
Lackawanna, NY (WBEN) An Erie County Court Judge has lifted a stay to Lackawannas' plans to demolish the Bethlehem Steel Administration Building.
Judge Kenneth Case upheld the decision made by the city in court Tuesday morning, as the 90 day stay came to an end. The ruling was not a surprise to Dana Saylor of Buffalo's Young Preservationists. "It was technically an administrative thing to see if there was a legal reason to overturn the demolition order Lackawanna had," says Saylor.
Saylor there's a chance to work with the building's owner. "We see an opportunity ot collaborate with Gateway Trade because it's in their interest to get the mayor to back off, while they develop a better plan to redevelop the building," explains Saylor.
Saylor delivered petitions to Mayor Geoffrey Szymanski to show there is support for saving the building.
