Buffalo DPW commissioner Steve Stepniak addresses the media about the city's preparations to deal with the upcoming winter season.

Buffalo DPW has 11,000 tons of salt for winter

Buffalo (WBEN) -- The city of Buffalo says its plows are ready for the winter season, and it's also prepared with something else as well.

Crews didn't have to use as much last season, so the city has plenty of salt available for treating the area roadways this winter, said Mayor Byron Brown.

"We still have approximately 11,000 tons of salt currently in stock here at the Broadway garage and the department's Fuhrmann Boulevard site," said Brown.

DPW Commissioner Steve Stepniak says the city has to buy a certain amount of salt each season. With that much left over from last season, it'll help in the city's budget, Stepniak said.

Both Brown and Stepniak inspected the city's snow plows on Tuesday.
