National Fuel Says Work Caused Odor

East Aurora, NY (WBEN) National Fuel says work earlier today at an East Aurora substation released an odorant, similar to the smell of rotten eggs.

The utility says it is not a natural gas emergency.

There are no leaks, but the smell remains in the areas of East Aurora, Hamburg, Orchard Park and Elma because of prevailing winds.

National Fuel says the odorant is given to more easily determine leaks, but residents can be assured there is no leak right now.

Thanks For the Warning
National Fuel could have saved many businesses the trouble of having to evacuate numerous buildings in the Southtowns area. National Fuel's lack of responsibility could have been avoided with a little common sense in notifying the public prior to the event. Thanks for nothing, rotten eggs for National Fuel........
