Bills Defeat Jaguars

Orchard Park, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo Bills got back into the win column Sunday, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars at Ralph Wilson Stadium 34-18 but those on hand were the only ones to see it in Western New York because of the NFL ‘blackout’ rules.

Buffalo jumped into the lead after quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick (9/17/112/2/1) hit rookie T.J. Graham on a 51-yard pass play which set up a one yard run by Fitzpatrick. After the teams exchanged possessions, it looked like the Bills may sleepwalk to another loss after Jacksonville got a one yard run from their quarterback, Chad Henne (18/41/208/1/1) which put them in the lead 10-7 early in the second quarter.

The Bills responded to that Henne run with a 55-yard return by Marcus Easley on the ensuing kickoff. Fitzpatrick finished that drive with a scoring strike to tight end, Scott Chandler to regain the lead. Defensive end, Mario Williams then made his presence felt when he forced Henne to fumble then recovered at the Jacksonville 14-yardline which set up a 29-yard field goal from Rian Lindell to give the Bills a 17-10 halftime lead.

Buffalo took the second half kickoff down the field and scored thanks to a 13-yard pass from Fitzpatrick to Stevie Johnson to increase their lead and then followed up with a 50 yard field goal from Lindell. Running back, C.J. Spiller sparkled again with a 44-yard dash to the end zone early in the fourth quarter which sealed the victory for Buffalo despite a late score by the visitors. Spiller ended the day with 77 yards on the ground while fellow ball carrier, Fred Jackson ran for 107.

Of the many clouds on Sunday, the darkest was the rash of injuries to the Bills. Johnson, defensive back, Leodis McKelvin and offensive lineman, Eric Wood all left the game with injuries. Their status is unknown.  Buffalo hosts St. Louis next week at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
