--Tops Friendly Markets announced that the company has entered into an agreement with the Farrugia family to acquire three Big M supermarkets located at 227 East Main Street in Elbridge, NY (Oswego County) ; 3385 Main Street in Mexico, NY (near Auburn)  and 9 Mechanic Street in Jordan, NY (Onondaga County).  

This marks the third acquisition deal this year for Tops and will expand Tops’ footprint further into areas of northern and central New York State. The planned acquisition of the three stores follows the 2010 acquisition of the Penn Traffic stores and 2012 acquisitions of 21 Grand Union stores and a store in North Boston, NY.  
 
-- Cornerstone FCU has announced plans to open a branch in Lewiston at  721 Center St.
 
 -- LPCiminelli, one of Upstate New York’s largest construction firms, announced today it has established an office in Manhattan to serve the New York City metropolitan area.  The company, which is headquartered in Buffalo, has hired construction executive Steve Giordano to run the new office.
 
--In a nearly unanimous vote  75 LPNs and other workers at  Catholic Health’s St. Catherine's Laboure Health Care Center ratified a labor contract.   The new four year agreement  includes a wage increase of 8.25% over the life of a four year contract, longevity bonuses, and maintains current employer contributions to health insurance

“This fight has never been about money, this has been about having voice on the job and basic fairness,” says Brenda Anderson, CAN, in a prepared statement from SEIU 1199.  Workers voted to join that union in September.
 
 --General Motors’ Tonawanda Engine plant is one of 54 facilities to meet a voluntary energy-reduction challenge set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, cutting its energy intensity by 31 percent to meet the EPA’s ENERGY STAR®Challenge for Industry.

To achieve the challenge, employees at Tonawanda Engine used energy-saving tactics such as: eliminating excess lighting fixtures in two plants saving enough electricity to power 406 homes in New York State; and working with NYSERDA, they are implementing Natural Gas reduction projects that will reduce enough natural gas to heat 212 homes annually in New York State.
