Buffalo, NY (WBEN) While Santa and the reindeer get ready up at the North Pole, many of us are getting our holiday cards together. An informal survey here at our building found a majority still believe in snail mailing our holiday greetings.
"I prefer the snail mail, it has a traditional feel to it,' says Tell. Another supporter, Susan, says "Christmas cards are Christmas cards, you gotta have it out there to show and point out, 'That's a cute one.'" Another says Christmas cards become part of the decorations.
Lindsay and Dan are among those who prefer to e-mail. Lindsay, who admits she doesn't send out cards, says "it's easier and less expensive." Dan says he's never sent a Christmas card, and agrees with Lindsay on the convenience of social media. "I just feel the convenience of social media is what takes over for me," he says. He admits he should send out more, as he gets "way too many to not send out to others."
But those who believe in snail mailing Christmas cards feel e-mail or Tweets just aren't the same. "It's kinda tacky, kinda cheesy, just too easy," says Sam. Tell notes he gets fewer snail mail greetings in lieu of e-mail and social media greetings. "For me, it's a bit weaker and doesn't have the personal touch of getting it in the mailbox," he says.
