Rice Withdraws from Secretary of State Consideration
Washington, DC (CBS) CBS News confirms Susan Rice has withdrawn her name from consideration as secretary of state.
Rice, the US Ambassador to the UN, came under fire after her remarks on the attack on the US Consulate in Libya Sept. 11. In the days after the incident, she blamed the incident on reaction to a video that insulted the prophet Mohammad, not terrorism.
That prompted high profile Republicans to vow to do everything in their power to block Rice's nomination.
Rice had not been officially nominated by President Obama.
