Orleans County Man Struck By 4 Vehicles

The Orleans County Sheriff's Office says Joseph Tillinghast of Medina was struck by the first vehicle before 6 a.m. Tuesday while walking on Route 31 in the town of Shelby, about midway between Rochester and Buffalo.

Deputies say it appears he was hit by three additional vehicles. Tillinghast was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say he was wearing dark clothing and walking along an unlit stretch of the rural road while heading from his brother's home in nearby Middleport to his own residence.

Deputies say all four vehicles that hit him stopped at the scene.
