The Bing Crosby version of the Irving Berlin classic is iconic among recordings. A local forecaster has provided some information about the days of White Christmases past in Western New York.
Records at the National Weather Service say there's been quite a variation over the past 127 years in the number of times Buffalo has had measurable snow on Christmas Day. Forecaster Tom Paone says the most recent White Christmas wasn't that long ago.
"The last time that we actually had an actual white Christmas was back in 2010 when we had four inches of snow," Poane says.
In its records, there's been 36 Christmas Day when Buffalo has had no snow -- and then those years when the day's activity did include some shoveling.
"So, again, it can vary quite a bit from having no snow at all to having almost a foot-and-a-half in 2001," Paone says.
The forecast does call for snow for Friday into Saturday.
