"Our goal is to eliminate drinking and driving in Western New York and we do that by providing transportation for people and their cars when they've had too much to drink," says Michael Mule of Designated Drivers of Buffalo. He says his business has grown over the past few New Year's Eves. "All week long our phones haven't stopped ringing, with reservations for New Year's Eve, so demand is extremely high for our services."
Mule says one person on each two person team drives the customer home in a company car, while the other driver drives the customer's car home. "People just tend not to want to leave their cars behind and that to us is one of the biggest reasons people drink and drive. We get calls the next day saying this is a great thing and we were able to enjoy ourselves and have a fun and safe way to go out. You and your car are where you want it the next day, safe at home."
He says that's a trend he's noticed. "People want to go out but want to be responsible as well and that's where we come into play," says Mule.
Downtown partiers can get free rides for themselves and their cars tonight between midnight and 4am.
