A Range of Opinions on The Cliff Deal

  From Facebook.com/WBEN930

No future for this country and it's children. American Dream-OVER

4 trillion in new debt over 10 years, 1 dollar in cuts for every 41 dollars in new spending...all I can say is wow. Brilliant.

If prominent Republicans dont like it it cant be that bad

If you think that for even a second the Congress was going to let us go over the cliff, and cut defense spending then I have a lovely bridge to sell you.

Now let's increase the debt ceiling some more. Don't worry, I'll cut later. Yeh, right.

In The National Review Online, Robert Costa writes:

" Our long national nightmare is over — for two months.
“We’ll fight another day,” said Representative Trent Franks of Arizona, an opponent of the Biden-McConnell agreement, as he left the House chamber. “The debt ceiling is coming up soon. That’s a good time to get some real reforms.”    READ MORE

In The Nation,  John Nichols writes

"The deal only ends Bush-era tax cuts on those with incomes above $400,000. Daniel Strieff at the NBC News Politics Blog writes that few people are satisfied with the compromise.

“This is a bad bill that made a bad situation worse,” Richard Haas, the president of the Council on Foreign Relations, said Wednesday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

“The only thing it did was avoiding sending the signal (to the rest of the world) that we’re reckless and out of control,” he added.

In Commentary Magazine,   Jonthan Tobin writes the Deal May Be Obama's Last

"President Obama got the best of both worlds with the passage of the deal to prevent the country going over the fiscal cliff. He got the massive tax hike on wealthier Americans that he wanted and paid for it with no spending cuts.

Politico.com looks at the rancor that lead up to the deal, writing of how it almost didn't happen

It was only a few days before the nation would go over the fiscal cliff, no bipartisan agreement was in sight, and Reid had just publicly accused Boehner of running a “dictatorship” in the House and caring more about holding onto his gavel than striking a deal.

“Go f— yourself,” Boehner sniped as he pointed his finger at Reid, according to multiple sources present.
