Bills Coach Search Heads West

Buffalo Bils President Russ Brandon, G.M. Buddy Nix and Assistant G.M. Doug Whaley are on route to Arizona today to scout possible head coaching candidates.

“We will all be travelling and sitting down with head coaching candidates,” Brandon told Buffalobills.com. “We’re looking for a strong dynamic leader to come in and run this football operation, run this team moving forward. We think that we have a very appealing opportunity here in Buffalo, based on the strength of our roster and what we’ve built over the last three years—really what Buddy’s done.”

The candidates are not confirmed, but there is speculation that the team has interest in Cardinals Former Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt, Defensive Coordinator Ray Horton, and Offensive Line Coach Russ Grimm.

Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reports that Brandon is "fond" of Whisenhunt.

Whisenhunt and Horton were both on staff in Pittsburgh when Whaley worked there.

WGR's Howard Simon reports the team also plans on making a run at Oregon Coach Chip Kelly and ESPN's Adam Shefter tweets that the Bills also have asked for permission to speak with Broncos Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy.

The Bills will interview Syracuse's Doug Marrone and Lovie Smith has expressed interest in the job, Simon says .
