NHL Board Approves CBA, Players Union Next
New York, NY (WBEN) The National Hockey League's Board of Governors has approved the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that ends the lockout that threatened the 2012-13 season.
Jeremy Jacobs, owner of the Boston Bruins, says the vote was unanimous. "Hockey is back," exclaimed Jacobs. He says now it's time to look ahead and the "bright future" the NHL has.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman tells fans he's sorry for the lockout. "As commissioner, it sometimes falls upon me to make decisions that disappoint players and fans. This was an extremely long and difficult negotiation, more than anyone wanted," acknowleged Bettman. He says the agreement is beneficial to both sides in the long term. He says it's a ten year agreement in a system where all teams can be competitive and win the Stanley Cup.
The NHLPA is expected to ratify the deal Friday and Saturday.
