Sam Hoyt, the regional president of Empire State Development, discussed the primary points of the governor's message...including the economy and tourism.
"He [Gov. Cuomo] will create a competition for each region to develop a marketing strategy, which ultimately can be integrated into the statewide 'I Love New York'-type campaign," Hoyt said, speaking to reporters following the presentation.
He spoke Thursday at the West Seneca Senior Center.
The marketing initiative also includes a plan for duty-free stores to feature New York-made products, such as apple cider made in West Seneca.
"And making sure that products like those are included in the inventory of these duty-free stores, which will be located across the state," Hoyt said.
Hoyt also discussed the plan to attract more venture capital through Innovation Hot Spots -- 10 high-tech incubators, which are partnerships between higher education and the private sector.
He also touched on topics that included education and a proposal to raise the minimum wage from the $7.25 per hour to 8.75 per hour.
