Sabres fans anxious to get the season underway

Amherst (WBEN) -- The Sabres are beginning their shortened training camp this week, and some area fans are happy to have the NHL back.

Some of those fans participate -- or have family members who take part -- in activities on the ice at Northtown Center at Amherst.

After playing some hockey, Mike, a high school student, is just happy that hockey is returning...#1

"With it gone, I mean, half the season's been wasted," Mike said.  "As for the Sabres, maybe they'll make the playoffs this year."

And sitting at a table and typing on his iPad, another youngster, Nick from Williamsville, says he just enjoys the sport...

"I like watching them and enjoy when they win," he says, adding that he was concerned about the season not happening when watching the lockout coverage on all the various networks providing coverage.

Another fan, Paul Fiarella of Amherst, says he's just looking forward to the season.

"We'll have a pretty good team this year. It's just unfortunate it took so long for everybody to come to their senses," he says.

He's also glad for those who livelihoods depend on Sabres hockey.

The Sabres will have a week of training camp before the season gets underway next weekend.
