Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Tuesday night, Buffalo Public Schools and the Buffalo Teachers Federation reached a deal on teacher evaluations. That deal may be held up by the state, according to the BTF President.

"Apparently the state has once again found technical issues with (the deal), and is talking with the district about it, so I don't know what the latest roadblock the state has put in our way," says a disappointed Phil Rumore. "We worked very hard on this. We thought we put together a good plan, but now the state once again in their infinitessimal wisdom, and I mean infinitessimal, have thrown in some road blocks."

Rumore says if this means no deal, the two sides will have to get together and try again. "We'll sit down with the district representatives as soon as we find out what the problems are and work through them before Thursday," notes Rumore. The district could lose out on $33 million in state aid if no deal is in place by then.

Rumore compares this to holding students hostage. "When there's a plan already developed, and (the state) uses their wisdom to decide whether it's a good plan, when the people who are in the front lines say it's going to work. Now, the state, who has people who have never spent a day in the classroom are holding up $30 million saying its not going to work," says Rumore.
