Buffalo (WBEN) -- Buffalo police are investigating the city's first homicide of 2013.

The incident happened near Kensington Avenue and Castle Place just after 1am Saturday.

Detectives say gunfire struck the male victim while apparently in a vehicle.  The victim, identified as 42-year-old, Christopher Cotton of Buffalo was declared dead at the scene.
