Late last week, the Empire State Development board approved a pair of grants totaling $2 million. $1.5 million went to Unifrax for expansion as the Tonawanda business acquired and installed new machinery. The project will lead to the creation of fifty new jobs. According to Business First, $500,000 went toward a restoration project at the former Fairfield Library. The site will be converted into office space and a handful of apartments.
Florida-based tanning salon chain Zoom Tan LLC is rapidly expanding across Westerrn New York. As many as twenty new locations may be coming here. Zoom Tan is owned by former Sabres owner Tom Golisano; the company has a partnership deal with the Buffalo Bills.
The State Labor Department reports more than 123,000 private sector jobs were added to the state last year. That growth was not felt here, with Buffalo and Rochester losing a combined 45-hundred private sector jobs last year.
