Orchard Park, NY (WBEN) With snow on the ground, there's a bit more excitement to this year's Winterfest. Erie County Parks Commissioner Troy Schinzel says there's also more to do to prepare.
Each year, picking events and a date is based "more on a feeling," says Schinzel. When the snow falls, he says attendance goes up. "It also brings a whole new level with the activities to do," adds Schinzel.
But with that snow comes some added challenges, namely getting some of the snow cleared away. "Removing the snow, clearing it from the parking lot to provide ample parking, and also clearing it from around the buildings to make things safe for tobaggoning," says Schinzel.
He says there's one more challenge with additional snow: getting additional staff. "When Mother Nature cooperates, it adds another layer of staffing we're responsible for but we look forward to it," says Schinzel.
