Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Goodbye Erie County Home in Alden, hello Terrace View Long Term Care Facility on the ECMC Campus. The 390 bed facility opens its doors today.
"it's been a long time coming," says ECMC's Jody Lomeo. "Lots of discussion over time, moving the Erie County Home in Alden to the ECMC campus on Grider Street."
Lomeo says the 390 bed facility will open today, but the residents will arrive over the weekend along with skilled nurses. He says the new facility should be fully operational on Monday. "This is a patient-centered, state of the art atmosphere. It's much smaller, more efficient," says Lomeo. "Residents and families will have much greater say when it comes to scheduling, so it's modern day thinking, and the care will be better for our residents."
Lomeo adds if an emergency does arise, the patient can get that care faster. "We were 16 miles away from the ECMC campus. Now we're taking a four minute walk through a corridor," says Lomeo. But faster emergency care is not the only benefit. "It eliminates major transportation costs, up to $900,000, and those costs will now go away," says Lomeo.
