Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament set for Saturday

Buffalo (WBEN) -- Crews are working on final preparations for Saturday's Pond Hockey tournament at the Erie Basin Marina.

They spent Thursday assembling the tents where spectators can enjoy beverages and stay warm.

The man-made ice rinks are also ready to host the Pond Hockey action, says Lisa Texido, associate brand manager with Labatt Blue...

"We've had the tent company down here all morning getting those tents set. We've had Pace Rinks here doing additional ice preps, making sure the layers are setting the way we need them to," Texido says.

Labatt Blue announced a week ago Friday that it was partnering with Pace Rinks to construct the man-made rinks because even though it hasn't been cold enough to freeze the ice on the lake, it has been cold enough to ensure the ice would stay solid in man-made rinks.

City of Buffalo crews have also been helping out with getting the lots ready, Texido says.  As for the expected snow, she says they're ready to deal with it.

"I'd say the good news about the timing of the system that we're going to get is that it is Friday, so by Saturday morning, we'll have dealt with it," Texido says.

She says the city is prepared for additional salting,  and crews from Pace Rinks will take care of any snow clearing that's necessary.
