Can Protest Rallies Be Effective?

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Tuesday, thousands will converge on Albany to protest the NYSAFE gun control law, the toughest in the country. But do such protests like this one work in changing lawmakers' minds?

"I don't really much (rallying) has had an effect," says Rus Thompson, who plans on being in Albany for the rally. "I'm hoping if enough people show up, we can make a real strong impression the people of New York are not happy with what we call the gun ban." Thompson says the key is big numbers. He recalls a rally in Niagara Square not too long ago where 3,200 people rallied against the NYSAFE Act. "The feedback I was getting was the lawmakers who passed this thing were completely shocked that the people were so angry and they turned out in force," explains Thompson.

But one challenge is getting people to travel to Albany in the middle of the week. "Most of us work for a living, and it's hard for us to get the time off from work, travel four and a half hours to Albany, four and a half hours back. But people are sacrificing, they're taking time off from work to do so," notes Thompson.

Thompson hopes Tuesday's rally along with online petitions led by Assemblyman David DiPietro and Senator Kathy Marchione will get the ball rolling on repealing the NYSAFE Act.

So this is where the Tea Party went.
They were effective, weren't they.

No Brains in Albany
There should be legislation that prevents any & all Legislators the ability to vote on any subject, unless they are actually EDUCATED on THE ISSUE.... This did Not Happen With Gun Control / NYSAFE Act. They just did it, Andrew Cuomo is Their Caesar.....
