Albany, NY (WBEN) The man who ran against Governor Cuomo in 2010 led a rally in Albany Tuesday against the NYSAFE law Cuomo fast-tracked.
Carl Paladino describes the group of 2,500 New Yorkers as energized. "They want to make sure their government knows they're there for a reason," says Paladino. "They filled the legislature chambers to make sure lawmakers know the people aren't taking what they did lightly."
Paladino says the state legislature will either run a government, of, by and for the people "or they're not gonna be there anymore." He adds there were also legislative speakers who are illustrating times are changing and "this illicit government will soon disappear and we'll get a more responsive government."
The group One Million Moms for Gun Control held its own rally in favor of the law. "They're wrong because the law infringes on the second amendment right of people to bear arms," explains Paladino.
Paladino predicts the NYSAFE Act will be found unconstitutional. "But to put the people through this and to use this highly emotional time after the Connecticut incident, to further their poltiical career is wrong, because this law does absolutely nothing that state law already did not do. We have state laws that are the most restrictive in the country before the NYSAFE Act," says Paladino.
