Warsaw, NY (WBEN) One legislative body has sent a message to Albany: repeal the NYSAFE Act. The Wyoming County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution 15-1 calling for the removal of the law.
"There is a very fervent opposition to the NYSafe Act," says board president Doug Berwanger. "People on this board feel the second amendment right is being violated." Berwanger says the law turns law-abiding citizens into criminals.
Berwanger says there are elements of the law that are encouraging, including addressing shortcomings with mental health issues, such as Kendra's Law. But the bottom line is, the NYSAFE Act is unlawful.
He says residents have contacted him and they've all voiced their objections to the law. "There are many unanswered questions, it was rushed through, and not well thought out," says Berwanger.
