The Genesee County public safety committee will take a look at the proposed resolution at its meeting today.
A rally before the county Niagara County legislature's vote is scheduled to begin at 4:30, outside the courthouse on Hawley Street in Lockport, scheduled in part to increase the number of public speakers that must sign in at 6:30 for the legislature's session.
Rally Organizer David Mongielo tells WBEN that while he is against the gun law, he is almost more frustrated by the way it was passed without much public discussion and in a hasty manner.
"Government seems so separated form it's people now than at any other time. They just seem to go off on their own," says Mongielo, a Lockport area auto repair shop owner.
Genesee County Legislature Chairman Ray Cianfrini says his county's opposition to the gun law is rooted in the county's rural nature, where guns aren't seen as violent, but instead as a part of life.
Cianfrini also has some issues with the way the law was passed. .
"It's a bill that had 25,000 words. It had numerous parts to it, and it's my understanding lawmakers had just an hour to digest it and take action on it, so I have a serious issue with it on that. I don't think it required that much urgency," explains Cianfrini, who also believes there are constitutional issues as well.
Cuomo has said he pushed the measure through using special urgent techniques that limited debated to avoid an "unprecedented" rush to buy assault weapons if he waited three days for a legislative vote..
Genesee county lawmakers have not had a chance to look at the bill yet, and some will take a look for the first time later today.
Cianfrini says it's time for Genesee County to step up and express its views on the law, following in the footsteps of other counties.
