Tonawanda City Police Warn of Craigslist Scam

Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) Police in the city of Tonawanda are warning residents about a Craigslist robbery scam.

Police say the victim answered an ad on Craigslist for an iPhone5 selling for $400. Police say the alleged seller told the victim to meet near the Tonawanda Housing Authority. The victim was attacked upon arrival by two men, while a third stood by and watched, and police say the victim's iPhone3 was stolen before the attackers left the scene. Investigators believe the ad was a scam, simply to lure victims near the attackers' place of residence.

Police urge you to take note of your surroundings, not to meet sellers in secluded areas, get the seller's information and try to have someone with you.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Tonawanda City Police at 692-2121 ext. 308.
