With the countdown on to the 85th annual Academy Awards this Sunday, I started thinking about food.
Big surprise, eh?
I love the movies almost as much as I love to eat. Part of the appeal lies in losing myself in a good plotline without the distraction of anything in the theater except a giant bucket of popcorn and a diet coke big enough to sate a family of four.
While I admit that movie theater popcorn—even unbuttered—is not a health food, I am immediately sucked in when I enter the theater lobby and inhale the aroma of the freshly popped corn.
If I want to see a couple movies, I will opt first for the flick showing at any of the Dipson Theaters simply because of the outstanding quality of their popcorn. It is freshly made, not delivered in a massive plastic bag, and the moment you munch you can taste the difference. Big blocks of butter, stacked like bars of gold, are used for the butter. It is a real treat to indulge in such crunchy goodness, especially if it accompanies an absorbing storyline. That’s my kind of multi-tasking!
I can ignore the roller weenies, the gross-looking nachos with cheese and even the Junior Mints, but the popcorn is a whole other temptation.
I’m curious about your movie munching habits. Before you post a comment, I thought you might like to hear about Cinema Bob’s favorite flick taste are:
"Personally, I’m a popcorn and candy man. My ideal movie snack combo consists of freshly-popped popcorn (no butter), Raisinets or Twizzlers, and a Diet Pepsi that can be lifted without having to use both hands," Cinema Bob said.

"That said, I am not a fan of the current trend towards nachos and pretzels with melted cheese for dipping. I find the spicy scent of the jalapeño cheese and olives to be as unwelcome as the scent of overbearing perfume or the pungent odor of a cigarette smoker’s winter jacket. These 'nacho and pretzel people' also have a tendency to drip on the floor. For some reason, I’m not fond of slipping on liquid cheese in a darkened theatre."
