Mayor announces new project along the waterfront

Buffalo (WBEN) -- A project that was originally intended for the Webster Block property -- could soon be coming to the Waterfront area anyway.

The city of Buffalo opted to accept the Sabres' HarborCenter proposal for that property. Carl Paladino's Ellicott Development and Castle Mosey had submitted the competing plan.

Mayor Byron Brown used his State of the City message to make an announcement about that proposal.

"Ellicott Development Company ... and Castle Mosey propose a 75 million dollar mixed-use development is coming to the waterfront on land owned by the [Buffalo] Urban Renewal Agency near the Erie Basin Marina," Brown said during his speech entitled "Progress."

The proposal would include a luxury hotel, residential apartments, a rooftop restaurant, banquet facilities, and structured parking.

The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency owns the land and will have to approve the plan as well.

Beyond that announcement, the Mayor also touching other downtown projects, the effort to
bring two-way traffic back to lower Main Street, and education during his speech.
