Hamburg, NY (WBEN) -- Traffic is moving again on Route 5 in Hamburg, after a serious crash early Sunday morning.

A caller to the WBEN Newsroom alerted us to the situation -- a green van plowed into a power pole at Route 5 at Big Tree Road around 1:15 a.m.

There's no information yet as to the condition of the driver of the van.

As rescue crews responded to the scene, police shut down Route 5 in both directions.

At its height, National Grid reported a power outage affecting 1,493 customers in and around Hamburg. The outage area stretched well north into Blasdell, and almost from the Lake Erie shoreline to the point where Bayview Road peels off from Big Tree.

Power was restored, and the road opened in the 4 a.m. hour.
