Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) An overnight accident is prompting police to remind you of getting your car out of harm's way, if possible, if you're in an accident.
Late Thursday night, two cars were involved in an accident along Niagara Falls Boulevard. Police say the cars were in a left turn lane following their collision. A third car rear ended one of the cars, seriously injuring that car's driver. Police say Matthew Miller then drove off before being caught on foot by Amherst Police in a nearby neighborhood.
Lt. Nick Bado of the Town of Tonawanda Police says while he's unsure of the circumstances behind the two cars involved in the initial crash, this serves as a reminder to steer and clear. "Being in the roadway after an accident is a dangerous place to be," says Bado. "If you have the opportunity to get your car out of the way, the best thing to do is steer it and clear it." He says the cars don't need to be seen in that position for police to see. "Whether it's drunk drivers, distracted drivers, texting drivers, you're very exposed when you remain in the roadway," cautions Bado.
